Default A2's USB-OTG: List of Supported Devices

The Cowon A2 supports a feature called USB OTG (Universal Serial Bus On The Go). Basically this feature lets you connect many electronics devices such as Digital Cameras to your A2.

Here is a list of compatible devices. I strongly encourage all A2 users to post in this list and report on the compatibility of their Electronical Devices.

Every Model/Device will be confirmed seperatly. The list of company names are just place-holders.

All posts not relevant directly to Device Compatibility will be removed so that there is no clutter! This means no discussions in this thread!

my contact at Cowon Korea said the A2 does NOT use the same chipset as the X5... so a seperate list of supported devices will be required.

Samsung Digimax A6 Digital Camera works fine with the A2. My dad just got one the other day so I took the oppurtunity to quickly test it works and it works fine.

Default More devices

Olympus C-3040Zoom did not work.

Archos Jukebox Multimedia 20g did work to read and copy files from it to the A2 but would not allow copy from A2 to the Jukebox.

Tried several USB Hard drives and none worked.
Maxtor 300g One Touch
Maxtor 120g

>>>>>>>Acom Data 40g<<<<<<<<<
Update on this drive. I wiped it out and formatted it Fat32 and I can now copy files from it.
Transfer seemed slow even for USB 1.1. I will time one when I get a chance.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Tried several thumb drives and could copy from them but not to them.

What is up with copy one way? Why not both? Better yet why not allow playing from the media?

I just got my A2 last night so have not had time to check out much more.

Tried connecting my A2 to both my Canon Digital Rebel XT and my Canon SD450 last night. Both failed (though during the sync attempt they came up as "Canon Digital Camera" on the A2's screen during right above the "busy" progress bar).

I wasn't sure if the cameras needed to be in any special mode (ie, playback instead of shooting). If they do, I'll put them on their different settings and try it again. But for right now, it was a no-go for me, and I assumed the camera needed only to be on for this to work if they were compatible.

Default Canon 300D

Similar results as PerlAddict with my original Canon Digital Rebel (300D). The A2 recognizes it as a "Canon Digital Camera", but eventually fails to connect.

Default Fuji S9500

Fuji S9500 detected just fine as USB Mass Storage :bigthumbs
http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/news...tory_3848.html

Also Fuji USB / XD adapter recognized as well.

The Fuji S9500 is the International name for the S9000 so the 9000 should also be recognized no problem.

PQI USB 2.0 6-in-1 Card Reader works

Card Reader website: http://www.pqi1st.com/products/usb2.asp

My card reader works with the A2, except I was very disappointed with the transfer speed (around 240 KB per second). It would take over an hour to copy from my 1Gb Compact Flash card, while the same CF card & reader, when used with the Archos AV500's USB Host (OTG), transferred at 900 KB / sec).

Cowon Q&A support replied to my complaint, saying that although it is specified at USB 2.0 Full Speed (12 megabits / second), it can only transfer 240 kilobytes per second, because it's using the hard disk and memory (!!!). Frankly, I'm appalled. I bought the A2 primarily as a photo backup/display device, and this is completely unacceptable performance given the advertised specifications.

In addition to specifying which products are supported by the A2's USB Host (OTG), could people please post their transfer speeds (in kilobytes per second, or say how large your transferred file is, and how long it took).

thanks,
Claude

Canon S1 IS not supported.

Using a "DigiSpeed" multi-card reader (USB 2.0), transfer speeds are very slow.
It takes 56 seconds to transfer ten 3.2MP picture (approx. 1MB each), which gives a speed of something like 180 KB/s.

USB 1.1 allows in theory a speed of 12 MB/s!

Note, I also tried something weird: connect the AV out of my camera to the AV in of the Cowon A2
in an attempt to record directly what the objective sees.

Didn't work - A2 starts humming and screen stays black, even during playback after the connection is interrupted.
Oh well, I tried
