3rd party cables for the X5? Interested in buying one?

Will there ever be 3rd party cables for the X5? (to get rid of the subpack)
Even for the M3 - no 3rd party cables after years now!

The problem is not that I can't make one myself, but what's with all the people complaining about the subpack and who aren't able to build a cable with the gomadic-connectors. All those people are potential customers.

I think there would be definately a market for such cables, especially a Line-Out and USB-cable.

But let's see how many people are really interested in buying one - so lets vote!

I don't really see the advantage to individual cables over the subpack myself.

@doniago
People are different (for gods sake) and so are their needs.

Imagine you use your X5's Line-Out in your car (needs subpack) and then want to charge it at home.
Problem is you only have one subpack and you always have to take it with you whenever you think of using Line-In, Line-Out, USB, or Power. And there's only one single subpack ...

Or imagine you would like to record a concert with an external microphone via Line-In - subpack is a pain in the ass for this task. (subpack does not lock into the X5)

That's (for example) what most people don't like about the subpack - besides you maybe.

I would REALLY like to have individual cables. Its so damn handy!

I voted for them all because all of them could be really useful.

I can make custom individual cables for anyone who is interested. I only charge for cost of parts plus a few bucks for my time to do the solder work. Here are some of the cables I have available:

I don't have a picture yet, but USB cables are available also.
No charger cables left right now, but I can order more parts if anyone wants one. Email me if interested.

I would absolutely love one for power, and one for USB. Name your price. Woops, didn't realize you said e-mail if interested. Doing so now.

curious for the line in/RCA cable...could you rig it so there's an RCA adapter that can make it both a line in and a line out? would that work?

Considering that I was clearly just expressing my opinion, and I said "I don't really see the advantage..." rather than claiming flat-out that there _wasn't_ an advantage, I really don't think your tone towards me was merited.

@doniago,

I didn't want to imply that your point of view is worse than another - that is not my way of thinking.

I'm sorry, but the "for gods sake" in my sentence "People are different (for gods sake) and so are their needs.",

refered to the whole human mankind, and not to you.

Btw. the meaning of a sentence mostly depends on the person reading it not the person writing it. :winker:

It should be understood more like: imagine a world where all people would have iPods or other way round all people would have X5's. Wouldn't be a colorful wishful world at all!

Don't take things too personal here in this forum as you always have to remember that many people in this forum aren't english native speakers. (actually I'm a german-speaking guy like eXity)
You're from the USA (and english native speaker as I imply), so you have a big advantage. Because you don't always have to rethink what you've just written and what it could mean to other people.

So in the future I'll try to articulate myself a bit more definite, OK? :winker:

Connectors and specs

Great work Sirronikae:bigthumbs . I have been wondering why someone hasn't made them and put them on the market. I am new 30GB X5L owner and love it, but wish the iAudio X5 had the same accessory support that the i$$$ has. I would like to make my own cables, where can I get the connector? What is the power specs for the charger? 5v and 1A?? You may have seen the external battery charger that uses 4 AA batteries, I would like to make one that plugs straight into the X5 without the subpack. Can you charge via the USB cable. Does USB provide enough juice? Does your USB cable work like the i$$$'s where it connects and charges via the USB? What do you think of a subpack that is 802.11g or bluetooth or FM transmitter?
