Fleek,
You can add this information to the Newbie FAQ, we have some information in there I believe how non-American users can receive support, that seems like a good place to put it.

Weird, Fleeek, I got mine back on the same day!

Well it's not mine, rather a replacement as you can imagine, but they copied everything across, and I gave it the obligatory night of charging so it should work perfectly.

I'm now in the process of finding somewhere that has the X5 remote in stock at a reasonable (less than $70) price, but it's looking fairly uneventful. At least that way, my big-ass Sennheiser HD215 headphone plug won't wreak havoc on the player's output again.

Fleeek, the exact same thoughts ran though my head when I got the new player - will I get the full year warranty back, considering it's a brand new player? And is there an extended warranty program I can get for it?

But straight-up kudos to Haldex, great customer service, and fast as well. Sure does shit on my experiences (or lack of experiences) with Cowon.

Hi Matt,

You are more than welcome for the service.

The warranty is a ‘pro-rata’ warranty, which means that the warranty is 1 year from 1st unit purchase, so this new unit only has the balance of warranty from your first unit.

Cheers.
I've just sent them another one asking if there is any way of extending it.
I shall see how it turns out.

Agreed. This has got to be the best customer service I have ever come across.

I wonder how well Haldex is doing...

I err.... installed non-standard firmware because of the new "skinning" opportunities. Does that mean they won't repair? Please say they will

Default How to resolder jack.

Just resoldered the jack in my X5L, as my warranty has expired.
wasnt too much trouble at all

Open the unit.
Remove the 4 screws from the board at the top.
Lift the left side of the board up and push in on the jack on the outside of the unit, it may require a little force to get it out.
fold it back so that the underside of the board is visible, make sure you dont pull out any of the wires connectiong the board to the battery etc..
On your soldering iron, melt a little pre-fluxed solder onto the soldering bit.
Touch this lightly on the 3 visible solder points coming out of the audio jack.
Reassemble.

no problems, stereo sound again!!

good luck guys

wow, i was just about to start this thread as well. my headphone jack gave out a few weeks ago, and like some people here, i've been using an elastic to hold my headphone cord down. anyways, i live in korea, and i'm thinking that it shouldn't be too much trouble to get it fixed here. however, the cowon site is useless. theres seems to be no customer support and they won't email me back when i try and register. oh, my warranty has run out too. anyone have any ideas as to what i can do with it. should i take it to some random computer store and hope that they can solder it back on for me, or is there a proper way to contact cowon over here. i am useless with tools, so i wont' be trying what you did Mondo, although i appreciate the tip on how i can fix it now.

anyway, cheers for any help you can guys can give.

I have the same, popular problem with my iAudio XL5.
In my case, however, I need to push in the jack really hard and squeze the device itself near the jack in order to hear anything. I received the device as a gift from the US and I don't have the receit unfortunately and anyway it's been over a year and it's been working flawlessly for the past month for me. I wanted to fix it myself since I need the device and don't have time and money to wait for the service to fix it for me.
I found out the some of you have fixed the device themselves, can you guys please write the whole process once again and slowly so a dummy as myself could understand it. And please should you have more time provide some pictures as well.
Thanks a lot!

Me too! Solder just isn't really enough to handle the abuse the headphone
jack on the side receives. I keep thinking I should reinforce with epoxy or
something.

Default Resoldering is not really that difficult

You can basically do a HORRIBLE job. but as long as SOME part of the jack is touching some part of the circuit board it will work. There are 3 points. Stereo Left, Right and Ground. Wiggle the audio jack until you can clearly see which is disconnected. Then just throw on a healthy amount of solder and get the things touching again. Honestly, It was about 5 times as hard putting the damn thing back together than the actual soldering.

I just soldered mine, got a little confused at first as to which part was the one with the problem but then it was very obvious as i saw one of the parts clearly separated compared to the other two so i just soldered that and put it back again. Its true it was more trouble putting it back together than the soldering process.

I've just soldered it and the sound is garbled. what exactly am i supposed to be soldering? i can't tell what part is loose as the plastic headphone jack just moves around. perhaps it shouldn't be this confusing but for some reason i can't get the sound to be normal.

cheers for any help.

I bought an X5L way back in July 05. This past fall the headphone jack on mine finally gave out - no sound unless I wiggle the connector.

Now, since I am long out of warranty, has anyone any idea of what Cowon would charge for the repair?
