heres an early pic while the heatsink was still on the cpu + kitchen extractor fan mod (moved slightly here so you can dwell on the beauty >< it still had an athlon cooler on the gpu just not the 3 ton copper chunk that killed it.
there was another extractor on the door vents

Sorry to interrupt the dead notbook talk, I wanted to ask if it is really impossible to have features that cowon did not build in in a custom UI.

The thing that I miss the most is artist and album artist as separate things like in rockbox.

A compilation or a soundtrack has a lot of artist needless to say things like this clog up your artist list.

Or when I chose new music it shows me the files, great cowon Id like to see the artists instead and then maybe choose albums or everything by the artist or just one song.

Nope, that's absolutely impossible.

only workaround is to swap one of the lesser used fields for the album artist using a tag editor.

i dont use or organise my files by albums so i use that field as a second genre type.

eg: i have one genre thats jungle, and another genre thats Oldskool both in the same file.
oldskool covers early jungle, acid house, hard house, techno, and that grey area between them all that occured around 1989.
but jungle covers stuff from about 1980-85 to present day and includes various other sub genre's of the jungle style such as oldskool jungle.

My computer arrived... it's fast as hell, I love it! I can even stream my desktop while watching TV AND playing Minecraft maximized AND having Firefox running AND having Adobe Flash CS4 running.
By the way, the i7's GPU is as fast as my notebook's nVidia GPU. XD
(The nVidia GPU of my new computer is of course a lot faster)

Only negative point: I need a HDMI to miniHDMI adapter, otherwise I'll have to use the i7's GPU.... (which has a HDMI jack, whereas the nVidia GPU has a miniHDMI one)

And a very positive point: I can't hear my computer! My notebook sounded like a starting airplane, but my new computer... nothing!

wow... my laptop is not sounding.... i never heard of laptops that have a sound.... for real... i have had a laptop, in which the charger, had a fan cooler, and it... dude... it sounded... i don't know how to explain it... like a .... like a motor-bike... and this is for real... the cooler was a little of it's normal positions, and had some dust... it was making sounds, like a fan that hits a rock with every wing, and is rotating at 3000 RPM.... it was... i couldn't hear the music in my closed headphones very well....

anyway, wish your new purchase lasts long!,,,,

lmao welcome to the i7 club, they do run silent huh

i bought a big arse thermolab bada heatsink, latest arctic silver, 2 decent pwm cpu fans and 3 auto controlling thermaltake 70cfm case fans in anticipation of lots of heat and noise.

that was such a waste, the cpu fan barely spins, probably dont even need it.
not to mention the 200cfm exhaust fan i got with it that can literally suck itself around the room when powered up....again unused and disconnected.

loving the stimpy'esque grin

Yeah, the i7 is truly a fantastic CPU.
On my notebook there was always ~30% CPU usage (well, of course while I was working normally), and now it barely reaches 10%, it's awesome. And I tested streaming again which uses a lot CPU... the computer stays smooth as butter. During my past UStream sessions, my notebook almost collapsed and I had to use TuneUp's Turbo Mode. xD

And the new BIOS (aka UEFI)... it lets me overclock the CPU and change lots of stuff! My notebook's BIOS just let me set the boot order and date/time, that was all.

Tomorrow I will do a UStream session... and hell, be prepared for a session that will be a smooth as never before!

OFF topic but : Where is the link to your computer, I'm sure there is a replica US model - just want to know !

Also, you can pop the hard drive out the dead laptop and put it in a external hard drive casing to still be able to access your files... unless you already knew that

In my notebook's HDD there's only the OS and all installed programs, but my personal files are all in my external 2TB HDD.

Well that's good news (for when i do upgrade).
I'm curious as to how hot they get when idle and working. Anyone have any measures?

briant1234: Haha, then I would have three external HDDs.

andrew_berge: Just looking at the temperature, it's 28°C (not idle, but not heavily used). I figure it's way higher when the CPU is 100%ly used, but I've never managed that so far.
(On the other hand, each core is able to run at 3.8GHz... I could even overclock it up to 5GHz theoretically, my i7 is a K series one...)
