Default Aaaaaah My new J3 arrived today and........

Hey people,

After many weeks of hair pulling I decided for the J3 over the X7. It arrived today and what a wonderful piece of hardware I must say .
But....after reading forum after forum it appears Kizunes leaf, lynx and sense are a must. My current firmware is 2.22, im trying to update to 2.26 before Kizunes UCI. For the life of me I cant access the system folder, root folders etc. My pc doesnt assign the J3 with a letter, so cant use explorer...it registers as a portable device with folders such as VIDEO, PLAYLISTS, MUSIC etc. Im running Windows 7, my Ipod shuffle, external hard drives are all assigned a letter.
Also do I need to update the firmware to 2.26 apparently it doesnt work as well as 2.24....(somewhere on here it states that)

Help would be appreciated as I wanna hook up my IE7's and listen the night away.

Thanks,

Will

You need to turn on your J3 and go to settings.
From there, choose 'System', and change 'USB mode' to MSC.

Fixed!

MSC stands for Mass Storage Class and MTP is Media Transfer Protocol which was developed by Microsoft which consequently means lots more restrictions than mass storage class. Don't use MTP... it was designed for old harddrive players with windows so people didn't have to install drivers back when they needed them. all it's good for is telling whether or not your device supports a certain format and for supporting DRM which has become rather obsolete thank goodness. With a flash device such as this one it is pointless to use MTP. all it does is not allow you to play your music on your pc directly off the device at least in the experience i've had with it..

Fun fact: microsoft also came out with PTP which was picture transfer protocol which is rather similar to MTP but with pictures, it basically allowed windows to discover pictures easily off of cameras in order to transfer them. but again its pretty pointless now because cameras have the MSC option and windows discovers the pictures just fine.

Thanks for the info nintendude, an indepth answer, clearly clued up ;-)
As for 2.26 I wouldnt know any difference anyway as installed from the get go, but good to know, thanks enzyme...

Probably shooting in the dark, is there a way to transfer playlists from itunes onto the J3? (I have all the NOW that what i call music from 1 to 79 and have created many playlists which would take many, many hours to replicate and sort on the J3)

Fingers crossed :-)

Oh one other thing I just bought Sennheiser IE7 from ebay for £45.00 delivered, looked at his feedback and many, many others have been bought and have passed the close inspection for fakes. Im no expert but it comes with all accessories, hologram, have done around 11 different tests to spot fakes and its passed, just wondering if theres a way to just 100% make sure, they even sound good, although they can take 100-150 hrs to burn in......
