This thing: Packard Bell Audio Dream (1gb)

It was the first "DAP" that I owned for more than a month, there were others but they were returned quite promptly, not including CDplayers/MD players.

Mine too . Except for the colour (purple), and the 1Gb storage. It died but the bundled EP480 still works fine . I bought a Zen 2gb after that, and since it also died recently, I'm getting an i9 . Should I expect cowon to sound superior to my old zen?

Why do half of those companies not produce players anymore? They certainly did have potential at a point..

My first MP3 player was... my cellphone. Then I got my first REAL MP3 player, a 5th generation iPod (very first iPod which is able to play videos). 60gb version.

Very, very, very heavy.

My very first MP3 player was actually a MP3/CD player. A first-of-it's-kind hybrid from Sony.

The Sony Walkman D-CJ500:

The first standalone MP3 player for me was the Digitalway MPIO FL100:

I still have both of these players. The Sony still is in good condition but the MPIO is already half broken with a backlight that doesn't turn off, thus draining the single AAA batter dry in 20-30 minutes.
