I tried installing the dictionary several months ago. For starters I wasn't sure if I was installing the correct Eng to Eng dictionary. I followed the instructions carefully, but then I would get stuck. I'd discover that a problem had been corrected, and try again.... And get stuck again. And so on....

I'm not sure where to begin now.

Я тут убил пару вечеров, но таки уговорил этот плеер поработать с сабжевой программой-словарем.

Проблема изначально возникала точно такая, но в результате многочисленных проб и ошибок нашел алгоритм:
1. Файл cp866.pyc лежит в папке \fscommand\library.zip\encodings\ Судя по ошибке он используется для раскодировки файла словаря *.dict Файл словаря - текстовый файл в формате UTF8, по-этому я просто взял файлик utf_8_sig.pyc (но вроде и другие пашут) и переименовал его в cp866.pyc (он походу используется по умолчанию), таким образом перезаписав его.
2. Далее идем по изначальному алгоритму (buildAll отработает нормально, 2 файла создадутся, на мелкие ошибки можно не обращать внимания) до нажатия кнопки Build .sol Files. Тут важно оставить галочку автоматически рубить словарь на части, ибо если поставить к примеру делать словарь в 1 часть, то после попытки перевести слово плеер намертво зависнет (кнопка reset помогает).
3. Все, файлики создадутся там где положено - в той директории с длинным путем. Переносим их на плеер в папку System/Flash UI/SOL (не надо создавать FlashUI/SOL в корневой папке плеера (мне сначало показалось, что именно так и рекомендует сделать автор в описании)).

Все, англо(любой язык на латинице)-русский словарь работает. Наоборот нет - нет в программе клавиатуры русской...надеюсь пока

if you have the same problem as antonavy, try out this solution -
1. rename utf_8_sig.pyc to cp866.pyc in \fscommand\library.zip\encodings\ (so you'll overvrite cp866.pyc)
2. after creating .sol files put them in \System\Flash ui\SOL directory of S9, dictionary.swf & dictionary folder put in \Flash folder of S9
3. it seems that it works for any language in case of translation "Latin letters language" 2 "any language". But may be not, btw for russian it works. enjoy

This app works perfectly fine for me [english definition and english to spanish dictionaries], however, I can't remember the steps I did or which builder.exe version I even used. I would like to help but all the information I can give is that I have the dictionary.swf file and dictionary folder in the FLASH folder and the dic.sol files ["dic0-dic(#).sol" and "dic0-index(A-Z).sol" files] in the SYSTEM/FLASH UI/SOL folder

I'm getting the same problem as traxxus.

I'm using the English to German dictionary with version .8.

The dictionary .swf identifies the dictionary but everything is word not found and undefined.

Whats the problem?

I can't even download the "dico.swf" file, it is reported as "not exist". Is it because I am in China? Where else can I find it?

I've found an instruction how to make your own dictionary for cowon d2. I think it can be used for cowon j3. So now i'm trying to use it. If I'll get working dictionaries, I'll post them dictionaries here.
