The touch screen only worked sporadically. Then it'd freeze to a black screen once it finished playing a file. The touchscreen stopped working soon after. I upgraded the firmware according to the instructions on the support site and when I turn it on, I see a prompt to calibrate the touch screen by touching the target with the stylus. When I proceed, the word "Touch!" turns to ok, which is a sign that the touchscreen still works. I still can't get past this screen though, so it's as useless as a brick to me.

seems to me to be a software glitch rather than hardware if the touch calibration still works. You might have to send it in for an RMA.
