It is said that charging through USB take more or in other hand it's nearly imposible to charge A3 through it. I think It is better to use the wall main. Hope this helps.

Still no luck. Charged the thing for a couple of hours last night. It was just showing the white screen all throughout. Then, I removed the charger, still the white screen. I went to leave it out for the whole day with that white screen on, then when I came back just a while ago, the screen's already off. Thing is, when I try to charge it again, it'll still show a white screen. I'll try leaving it out again.. hopefully it works tomorrow.

Had the white screen come up for me during boot twice already, I just shut the player down, restarted it and it worked as per normal.

Sorry for asking but when it charges again after a WSoD, does it show the white screen too (even a few seconds or minutes), or do you have the red light with the screen showing charge in progress ? Thanks.
EDIT: Finally I experienced it myself, and I can say that it showed the white screen for one second or two, and then there was a red light. My device is ok now, thanks for this topic. Last edited by Daimonji; 11-15-2008 at 02:01.. |

I experienced it too.
A3 was connected to PC for hours (Unattended) without doing Copy/Paste. I think this caused WSOD.

So I am in the midst of an A3 crisis related to the white screen of death. Similar cause to others, left it plugged in via USB unattended while I tended to a minor flood in the basement this morning. Came back to the WSOD. Tried the AC charger, nada. So I'll try the method here and leave it alone until tomorrow.
However, the concern I have is that the A3 appears to be completely off; there is no white screen unless I plug it into the AC adaptor. I don't get the red light indicator. So I'm not sure I can completely discharge the battery. I'm thinking my issue might be similar to jvliwanag. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. |

well Robin, if your player is in the same condition as mine, don't despair. I gave it almost 24 hours to chill out, and when i plugged in the AC adaptor this morning, the beautiful red light lit up!! let it fully charge for a few hours and it booted up without problem. . . Good luck!!!

I chatted with cowon tech supprt about this issue and they pretty much want to pretend it doesn't exist because I am the only one who contacted them directly about it.
Please contact cowon support and tell them you have the WSOD issue, let's get them to put out some new firmware to fix this. Below is my conversation with tech support. ---------------------------- Eric: Have you guys resolved the WSOD issue that started with firware V.1.27? Eric: A3 Welcome Eric! Your request has been directed to the Technical Support department. Please wait for our operator to answer your call. Call accepted by operator Technical Support Team1. Currently in room: Technical Support Team1, Eric. Technical Support Team1: What do you mean by "WSOD"? Eric: people are calling it the "white screen of death" Technical Support Team1: This player doesn't have a white screen of death. Eric: heh heh it does now Technical Support Team1: Are you experiencing a problem with your player? Eric: since the newest firware Eric: yes Eric: me and many others in the forums Technical Support Team1: What is the problem you are experiencing with the player? Eric: if left connected to USB, it goes into a white screen and will not respond to any commands, not even a reset Technical Support Team1: How much time have you left it connected to your PC's USB port? Eric: the only solution is to leave it on for days until the battery dies, then try charging it with the AC charger Eric: if it does not work, repeat Technical Support Team1: How much time have you left it connected to your PC's USB port? Eric: 6 hours maybe Technical Support Team1: Was there a reason you left it connected to the USB port for 6 hours? Eric: yes, trying to charge it Technical Support Team1: OK. And if you charged it with the charger would it charge fine? Eric: yes but only after killing the battery and getting rid of the WSOD Technical Support Team1: OK. Good. So currently the player is working then? Eric: yes it works Technical Support Team1: OK. I have not had any reports at all from any customers indicating issues like you are describing with this version of the firmware. Eric: go to your forum and do a search for wsod Technical Support Team1: There was an issue similar to this back with version 1.23. But no one at all has contacted us besides you with this issue. Eric: it will then point you to another forum with multiple people posting about this issue Technical Support Team1: So everytime you hook up your player to the USB port for charging you will get a white screen right? Eric: sorry but it is in existance Technical Support Team1: So everytime you hook up your player to the USB port for charging you will get a white screen right? Eric: yes Technical Support Team1: Are you hooking up to a USB port on the back of the PC? Or it doesn't matter since you tried them all? Same if you tried a 2nd PC too? Eric: it makes no difference, any usb port on any computer Eric: i have more than 10 pc's/laptops here Eric: this happened on 2 of them Technical Support Team1: OK. Since your the only one to report this issue. We'll have to check with our test unit and see if the issue replicates here. If it doesn't, most likely the issue is with your player. Eric: mine and 20 other people who just installed the newest firmware? Technical Support Team1: If it does replicate. We'll then report the issue. Eric: check the forums Eric: ok do this Eric: plug it into a usb port on a pc, let it sit there over night, then look at it the next day Technical Support Team1: Those 20 people are not contacting technical support for assistance. They aren't doing what you took the initiative to do. Eric: tha is true, but it does not mean the problem does ot exist Technical Support Team1: It doesn't mean it exists either. Eric: people assume you know of the issue and are working on new firmware Technical Support Team1: It just means you experienced an issue. And that it needs to be checked out. Not that there is an actual issue. Eric: me and everyone else posting in that forum thread Technical Support Team1: You are the only one stating this issue. So far that is only one instance reported. Eric: lol, yes we have established that I am the only one who contacted support Technical Support Team1: OK Eric: I will go post in the forum and get them all to come and report it Technical Support Team1: Is there anything else we can help you with? Eric: nope, we are all set, I hope you can replicate the issue and get some new firmware available to the users Technical Support Team1: OK Technical Support Team1: Thank You for contacting Cowon AMERICA's Technical Support Department! Have a great day!!! Eric: u2 |

this happened to me before. Have you tried the hard reset button? If it still doesn't work, plug into ac adapter and leave it for a day and come back to try turn it on again.
