Cowon Q5W. I also have a cheapo 128mb player from years ago, but I haven't used it in years.

For portable mp3 playing (for instance, while mowing the lawn), I just use the built in mp3 player in my cell phone (LG VX8300) and headphones.

Just out of curiosity, why do so many people have so many players? You can only use one at a time.

0. Panasonic CD-MP3 player, I forgot the model number
0.5 JVC CD-MP3 in-dash car radio, don't remember model number, don't know if this counts.
1. Archos Jukebox 10gb
2. No-name 1aaa square SD card player with no display
3. Sandisk Sansa M260
4. Frontier Lab NexBlack
5. No-name USB stick-type 1GB player from woot
6. Sandisk Sansa C240 refurb (actually 3 of these)
7. Sandisk Sansa E280 refurb
8. Headroom Total Bithead USB DAC for use with laptop computers, if that counts.
9. Cowon D2 16GB (on order, not here yet)

The C240's were really cheap on woot and I bought three to hack Rockbox with, figuring I'd likely end up bricking them all (this turns out to be fairly hard to do). Then I bought the E280 (also on woot) intending to mod it to have normal connectors and use a full sized SD card and run on normal batteries, but found that the D2 does all that except for the batteries, so I ordered a D2. From everything I can tell it's nicer than the Sandisk stuff.

I do like the M260 a lot, it's just that its capacity is too limited and its user interface sucks.

The Nexblack (and Nex 3 which I gave to a friend) are the only players I know of whose designs I consider sane, but unfortunately they aren't all that well executed. I think the ultimate DAP is very buildable but the market for it is too small to attract some glossy corporation, so independent builders (the folks now making stuff like CMoy headphone amps) will have to do it. For anyone thinking of doing that: yes, there are buyers out here waiting for such a product. I may start a thread on head-fi with suggestions.

I numbered the Panasonic CD player and JVC car player as 0 and 0.5 because I remembered them after listing the others and didn't want to renumber everything, and I think I listed everything in chronological order. I never used the CD player much and it barely counts. I do like the car player (one of the earlier ones) though these days I'd buy one with an SD slot. The cheapie players are quite cool, good replacements for cassette players. The Archos was my first "real" player (quite old when I bought it used on another forum) but I liked it enough that I started buying newer/more advanced models. I am very glad to say, I was never seriously tempted by any model of ipod .

oldschool disk iRiver iMP-550
going to replace it with cowon iAudio 7, 16G version. unfortunately, it is really hard to find in kyiv. but i don't want any other (i.e D2) since i really hate touchscreen control and consider it a very bad idea. i love oldschool buttons, 'cause i can ride my bike and control my player without looking at it at all. that's why i.m.o. staring at the screen to do every elementary operation is anti-ergonomical and really suxx.

I can handle it perfectly in my pocket.

hmmm... can't see any buttons except menu button & volume control. the users manual also says nothing. maybe D2 hase some cool cryptic undocumented features? i have seen the real D2 just once, and that guy entirely controlled it via touchscreen.

Well, if you lock the screen you can use the volume controls as Forward/Back buttons. So you can skip songs easily with the D2 in your pocket.

I have the D2, used to have an A2 but the battery dried up and I was never able to save it from it's bricked state... so now it's just a pretty paperweight

Also my D2 has been pushed back from full time player duties to just being portable storage + car stereo duties since my G1 phone is just... much easier to implement as a 'walk around/take the bus & train" player. Once a better media player is made/ported for it I might even rank it as a better player then my long & trusty D2... thus I'm having paranoid mental images of my D2 one day sneaking up on my G1 and like... slamming it's screen with a hammer yelling out "I'M THE MUSIC PLAYER... DIE DIE DIE!! >;O "

...and yes ... I have a hyperactive imagination
