Default I7 .ogg sound quality

Someone on the Cowon America board reports (demonstrates) distortion with .ogg on the I7 (wonder if D2 suffers too). See:

Yeah, it's that old problem again.

It was discussed here already (regarding F2 and U3), and cowon promised to look into it, but apparently done nothing.

Pretty easy to test - install Audacity, and create a bass note/tone, like 110Gz, for example. That's it.

I did find the same problem on the D2 & logged it with Cowon. An updated firmware version fixed the issue. You can read about it at: http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showth...hlight=quality

I haven't tried my test files on the i7. When I get a chance, I'll get back with an update.
If it is the same problem then hopefully it can be fixed via firmware.

Just confirmed, yes it is the same problem. There is some hope, it was fixed on the D2.

Aaaahhhhh, I noticed the exact same problem! Thank god I'm not the only one... Very annoying once you know what to listen for. I was just about to rerip all my cd's to mp3 instead of ogg; I guess I'll wait for the next firmware then...
The problem got solved for the D2 around 05-19-2007, so why isn't this solved yet for the i7, then? Not very hopeful....

I know what you mean, but it could be very hopeful indeed.

Quite often, the dev team will have libraries of code and schematics etc which can be reused or easily adapted to similar hardware - it's to reduce dev time and therefore cost when you expand into future releases. In theory, when someone fixes a bug, they would update the team's codebase with the new code, and future implementations would have the fix from version 1... sometimes, it doesn't work so smoothly

So whether Cowon not applying the same or similar fix as the D2 (they both use a very similar IC), is result of a whoops up or a real limitation of the i7, could go either way... all in all, we just have to play the waiting game

Hey does 1.16 have the bug?

I did this small example (110Hz sound) and sent it to Cowon, as a question about U3.

If it's the same problem on i7, you can send this file to them too (as about i7). Maybe it will motivate them just a little bit more.

Man, this still not being fixed is really pissing me off. For anyone who hasn't submitted a support ticket to Cowon, please do so. Attaching the files MaxST uploaded can't hurt either. Lets light a fire under their asses.

I've heard some people have problems, but it worked fine for me. Have you tried their live support?

Looks like the live support is only for North America, and only for either hardware or jetAudio support

Lying about the x264 capabilities of the A3 and the vorbis capabilities of the 7. I'm sure getting a kick out of this.

I almost bought this after looking at h320s/120s on ebay going for $150 new. for $50 more I'd have something smaller, sleeker, almost as much space, 3x the battery life, with a far less chance of dying(flash vs HD).

but it doesn't work. :/

Umm, it does work, just with some distortion. Actually I have yet to try playing those samples again after discovering the wonders of a flat EQ and no effects...
