Default iPod Touch

I'm not an apple-fan, but I have to admit, they seem to have done it again. They are unbeatable!

What do you all think?

The iPod touch is slim, it's got a 3.5 screen, decent battery capacity, great GUI, Wi-Fi and 16 GB of flash memory. And it's quite affordable, concidering what you get!

The d2 has expandable memory and probably better sound quality and better battery life, but on the other hand, using a SD-card drains the battery faster.

Wich one would you choose if you bought yours today?

I would investigate sound quality, and if it's OK, i guess I would go for the iPod, I'm sorry.

I love the touch, but I think I'd stick to the D2... the 16GB isn't expandable, in addition has anyone mentioned how much of that space is used by the operating system??? maybe it isn't a sparkily as it looks...

No I'm sitting this one out....for now

My only complain is cowon's customer service and development department, the D2 is OK but Cowon Has decided to not to allow it to reach it's full potential, and everybody knows what those things are... stable firmware, proper ID3 tag support, playlist support (not that WM11 BS), I mean really...why bother creating managing software for your devices and let somebody else program control it... The touch it's ok, but... still too much, for little space, I'll wait and see what happens with the lazy developers at Cowon, if they don't do something soon, I'll just forget about the D2 and Buy something else, that might not be and ipod touch, could be an archos 605 wifi, which supports SDHC and a 160 HDD and M3U playlists.

Default I'm seriously thinking about it.

I love my d2, but the thought of doing some Wi-Fi web surfing anywhere in my home is pretty attractive. Oh and I hear playlists are pretty cool too, but as a D2 owner, I wouldn't know much about that.

Default no Wi-Fi web surfing

I think there will be no Wi-Fi web surfing, but data exchange via Wi-Fi (and this only with iTUNES).
I use the SD card for fast and easy data exchange.

As usual from Apple they have produced a gorgous looking unit, its the whats underneath and issues such as restrictive software which bother me and always have with the Ipods, Plus i know a few here complain about cowon customer service , try Apples, well for a nice small fee that is.

I'd still get the D2 over any player out there, I mostly just want to play music with an occasional video, the Touch is too expensive to not utilize it completely if you buy it, and it's not expandable, which is a much in my opinion.

Couldn't agree more. Restrictive software is the main reason NOT to buy an iPod, I think.

What makes software/fw more restrictve on a apple product? Ok they may not update as regularly but at least they have it fully working. Cowon software is as restrictive, in the sence that we dont have access to the source code. In saying that Apple products are more likely to get hacked/rockboxed more often then Cowon.

I was seriously considering switching, the few things hit me, i would have to use itunes and the sound quality may not be on par with the D2.

The others (nano and classic) just look to regular. I dont like the new GUI on them two devices either.

Default Apple itouch

Software may be restrictive, but it works. Can someone please explain how cowons software is not restrictive? Are themes the not restrictive part? cause I can do without that. Has anyone been able to fix the problems with this less restrictive software? Theres always rockbox for Ipod, but no rockbox for d2's.
As for the web surfing, I watched the full itouch video from apple, and you can surf with their safari software and the Wi-Fi. The price, I agree it is a bit expenive, but i've spent $300 + so far on the d2 for 12gb total, so $399 for 16 is not to bad, especially if it delivers upon what is promissed. Heck we've all spent around $200 and not gotten many basic things we were promised. And the Itouch has a screen thats an inch bigger. Not to mention its about as thin as a compact flash card.
Heres another apple plus, the iphone has been out for a couple months and it already has more paripherals than the d2. Im sure the itouch will have a plethera of addons to choose from in no time.
I originally bought the d2 because of the flac support, cool touch screen capabilities, and size, but did not realize at the time that it had problems with the basics. I have since stopped using flac in favor of ogg just because the file size. So D2 has size and ogg support still going for it for me. But If they dont fix the basics soon, Im affraid I may have to abandon ship.
I'm no apple fan, I don't own anything apple, and really want to keep it that way, which is why I have a d2. I always thought apple was way overhyped, but now i'm wondering if the d2 has sufferd from that as well. I will continue to tell myself the grass is always greener on the other side, but its wearing thin.

Playlist is biggest problem. but some others that I think are basic are are:

ogg/flac tags support
no gapless playback
shuffle sucks
Tag browsing buggy.
limited size video playback.
