Default Patch works on D2+ ?

Hi
Just got D2+ and awaiting 16gb card. Really great.

Tried the patch both files in the root directory D2FontPatch & D2N_P_FT.bin.

However it does not recognize the file name.
Should I rename the bin file aor does this patch not work with D2+ 2.02 firware

Thanks

Has anyone tried this fontpatch with fw 2.11? I'm getting 'Error: wrong version of D2N_font.bin'. Maybe it hasn't been updated for 2.11, or am I doing something else wrong?

It appears to work on 2.10, if I install it on 2.10 and then upgrade to 2.11 will the patch stay?

My vision is BAD, the larger fonts would be great.

I'm loving my new D2+, it's a great media player, and thanks to those of you who make the themes and patches, great work.

It finally worked, I'm still not sure what I did differently.

Huge improvement! Cowon should just install this font as the standard for future firmware, it's that good.

Thank you, MaxSt, for doing this.

Noob here. Owner of D2+ 2.11 firmware. Been reading all the forums for a few days and am quite confused.

I'd like a bigger, bolder font. Can you give me a link to the font patch? I tried one and got an error message.

A previous poster renamed the font file. What do you rename it? When I download 2.11 firmware, there is just 1 folder, not 3. How do you convert font to your current firmware -- is that where the renaming comes in?

I apologize for my ignorance. Thanks.

Here's what worked for me:

Take the second file in the 2.11 firmware you downloaded, the one named D2_P_FT (I think, it's not in front of me right now), and rename it D2_font (not d2_font.bin). Create a folder on your desktop, and put this bin file into that folder. Then double click on the fontpatch file that you download from this very thread, it's on the first page of the thread and on page five.

When it asks you what firmware to go to, direct it to the folder that you just created on your desktop with the bin file in it. It should then say it worked. The two common error messages are that it can't locate the file named ____, or that it's not a compatible version of the firmware. This is what I got until I renamed that bin file properly, and even then I got the second message a couple times before it worked, don't know why.

Then rename the newly fontpatched bin file back to it's original name (not sure if this step is necessary, I did it), and drag it to the root folder in your D2, assuming you've already upgraded your D2 to 2.11. Unplug D2, turn it on, you should see a firmware update message, the D2 will turn off, turn it on again and the new larger font should be there.

The instructions earlier on in this thread didn't quite work for me, I'm not sure if the settings in my computer are weird or if the newer version of the firmware gets unzipped differently from older versions. 2.11 comes as three bin files within one folder, not three folders each with their own files. When I executed the fontpatch, I only had the option of directing the fontpatch to folders, not to individual files, that's why I had to create a folder and put the bin file into it. Hope this is clear.

Someone with more experience may be able to explain it better, correct me, or explain why it happens this way.

THANK YOU for your quick response lynnj.

Your instructions were great. I got an error when I renamed the font file, D2_font, so I tried D2_font.bin and it worked. I still need my glasses, but at least the font is a little bigger and bolder.

One last question, how do I keep the font when I upgrade to the next firmware? Do I just not put the new D2_P_FT file in the root directory?

Thank you again.

I'm glad it worked for you.

I recall reading somewhere that the upgraded font stays with you even if you upgrade the firmware. If not, you'd just have to apply the font patch to the font bin file of the new firmware like you did with 2.11.

If you haven't tried installing a theme (see the thread on Cassini's themes), you may find as I have that some of the themes make the font even more readable. The colors of the themes along with tweaking the font color give you more contrast and better readability. And the themes are a lot more fun to look at than the dull default non-colors.

I did try a couple of themes, but I without words underneath the icon, I couldn't remember what the icon was suppose to represent. So, you see, I don't just have bad eyes, but I'm old.

May I ask, what themes have you found helpful in terms of contrast and readability?

Almost any of the themes are better than the default, play around with them. You can set the font to white or black or any color, this helps, too.

There's another font patch floating around that puts the names of the icons back, I can't remember where it is. It installs easily... (I'm about to leave for a week and don't have time to find it, you should be able to find it with a search.)

Default Thanks!

Hiya,

I've been lurking awhile, trying to get a feel for the place, see how it works, not ask any questions I can't figure out from the forums, etc.

So I just joined tonight, and, with some trepidation, attempted my first "mod": getting a larger font patch (a feature I've wanted from the start.) And. . .
Wow! It worked perfectly.

Now I can't wait to see what else is out there for my D2!

Um, so this is basically a long way of saying: "THANK YOU!!!!!!!!"
