First of all, If there is already a suitable replacement for the x5 battery (LG cell phone batt), couldn't the x5l users simply buy two of them and wire them together (as the x5l has two separate batteries). The mah won't necessarily match the original 2250, but i don't think that matters much....but onto my main point.
Why not create an external battery pack out of standard 3.7v AA li-ion cells and one of those cheap battery caddies. You could use as many as you like, with the added capability of quick swapping them for fresh ones. All you would have to do is drill some small holes in the casing and route the wires out to the external pack (tastefully duck taped to your player). I figure you could remove the internal batteries all together. Here is a link to a battery caddy if don't know what i mean. http://www.thomas-distributing.com/battery-holders.htm |

You mean this?
http://cgi.ebay.com/External-Battery...QQcmdZViewItem It doesn't require drilling any holes, it utilizes the socket on the subpack that is there for external charging already (the one you plug the AC adapter into). I've got one like it and other people have made them. http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8298 You don't have to do any unattractive duct taping and only use it when you need the extra juice (such as on a long travel day). The benefit of using it through the subpack is that it will charge your internal battery while also providing external power (just like the AC adapter).

But it won't stop the internal batteries from being worn down (albeit more slowly). Hooking a battery pack directly to the player's internal power nodes would simplify things a little in the long run...

Well, yes, if for some reason you want to remove the internal battery from the equation (I can't really understand why you would want to) you could drill into your unit, duct tape a battery pack to it, and bypass it. This won't stop your internal battery from degrading as lithium-ion batteries degrade over time, whether or not they are used. Plus, I think most people find it much simpler to go with a solution that plugs into the external power socket, for which there are plugs you can buy, than to drill a hole and solder a connection to bypass the internal battery.

It would make it more complex rather than simplifying.
a battery pack as zeus linked to, 12-16 or so rechargable AA batteries and a solar powered battery charger should see you through a 3 month festival period no problems, for a few £/$ outlay and a couple of minutes building the battery caddy. Not got quite the same power output as the Mendip Munter (a solar powered milk float with integral audio rig.), but it would be cool all the same. =] ![]() |
