~$80 at most. I just can't understand why nobody makes one designed for this very purpose. I would just want a volume knob(mechanical to show the current volume), an aux-input (3.5 mm, 2 RCA jacks, or both) and a power button(whcih goes in to show if its on. NO LCD or LED or anything. I think that's reasonable.

I saw that a while ago. It has SD, line-in, and other similar features. I don't know of its quality, though.

They're the same company that makes that FM transmitter which plugs into the car outlet and plays music off any flash drive. That would do nicely. What about installation? Are there any isntructions on the net or will I have to take it in to a shop?

EDIT: Is Sony good at car audio?

I might get this instead for its higher watt output and reputation.

SECOND EDIT: This is even cheaper:

Help Need more help: Crappy sound

I bought the cable suggested by afruff23:

It fits and it works ... But the sound is sh*t. It's just terrible, real bassy and low. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, I will assume I am.

* I plugged the Y-cable to the line-in color-matching plugs on the back of the radio.
* I plugged the other end of the Y cable to the headphones jack of the X5.
* I select Aux from the panel of the stereo.
And here's what happened:
* I can't control the volume from the stereo so I have to turn the volume of the X5 all the way up.
* The sound is horrible. Even all the way up (from the X5) the sound is very low and muddy.

I just hope somebody can 'identify these symptoms'. Thanks.

Turn off all EQ effects. The X5 is supposed to be at maximum volume; you then control volume with the stereo.

It works great now and the sound quality is excellent. Thanks y'all for your help.

Edit: The cable's into the headphone jack.

I have had mine plugged in at the headphone jack using a y-cable for some time now. It does sound very bassy (sp?). I can control the volume on the stereo or on the player. I tend to find if I turn it down on the player and up on the head unit, it sounds a bit better. Where did you have it plugged in before? I would love to get better sound out of mine.

The headphone output can be bassy. What you did by lowering the X5 volume was the correct thing to do. If you are feeding a line-in on your car sound system, try connecting it to the line-out of the subpack. Turn off ALL sound enhancements on the X5 like EQ, BBE, etc. See if you like that better.

as soon as it gets back from RMA status I will try it with the subpack since I have 2 I can leave one in the car.

It was plugged to a connector labelled 'Speaker' or something like that, I don't remember. Now it's plugged to the connectors labelled 'CD'.

You mean line-out.

lol, no offense, but did you think this through? Speaker is an output device, so obviously the X5 is not meant to be connected through this port. CD on the other hand is an input device. The X5 is an input device in this regard, and should be plugged into the CD port.

Afruff, the snarky tone isn't really needed.
