Hi Everyone,

I tried to send a screen shot but it was rejected.

Well tried everything that you said but fell at the first hurdle I'm afraid.
I Finally found the download for Handbrake Batch Converter but cannot get it to work.
My fault entirely though.
Not sure what to put in the top box.
Cannot drag any files into the middle box, the just get rejected.
Cannot find the drag & drop box you refer to.
And don't quite see what the difference in the end result is between Handbrake and Handbrake Encoder.
To say I'm lost would be an understatement, lol.
Your help please, sorry!!

Regards,
Glen.

Don't make it so complicated. Rip your DVD with DVD Decrypter (rip chapters or whole dvd) or use another software to get vob files. And then just use win7 movie maker and use the normal zune profile, where you can customize the bitrate output of the audio. Output is wmv - the j3 likes it. That's it.

Ahh bugger it, posted a long reply n deleted it.
Will take a look at the pic tmrw as im on the phone in bed right now, got a feeling you may have handbrake loaded instead of the batch converter. You need to load batchgui.exe If memory serves (must serve sometime or in demanding a refund).

as for the speed i think it manages about 8-9x realtime, no complaints from me there.

edit:ok grabbed a screenshot of the batch encoder interface:

as you can see the drag and drop button is at the top right, click it and it opens a little window into which you can drag files to convert.
the first box is used to set a folder in which the batch encoder will look for files to encode.

the main idea of this program is that you can easily convert more than one file at a time, it's something i do often and is a real pain to do that via the main handbrake program.
i just direct it to the folder in which my video's are stored and it checks for duplicates and converts the new vid's, i then have another folder full of vid's formatted and ready to use with the j3.

it also allows an easy interface for pasting the preset codes etc.
over time you will see it's a lot more efficient to use compared to the main handbrake program and often converting turns into a two click process, once to launch the program and once more to start it converting.

Default Must be me I guess!!!

Well I just thought I would add this post seeing as you have all taken the time & trouble to be so helpful.

Firstly, I downloaded the Handbrake Batch Converter as you suggested, well tried too would be more apparent! There were a couple of links on the site and when I tried the first a message appeared after the down load stating “ Procedure entry point Etw trace message could not be located in the dynamic link library ntdll.dll.

I then downloaded the other available link on their site and this time everything seemed ok with the Handbrake Icon appearing on the desktop. But when clicking on it or trying to open the file nothing happens.

I have tried this process on three different computers with the same results, so after hours of endeavour it all seems to have ended in total frustration!!

I then went over and tried Volcontro's suggestion and sadly I don’t have Windows 7, only XP and VOB clips don’t seem to want to go into the Windows Movie Maker XP version.

Anyway, chin up and back to the drawing board tonight I guess.

Thanks to you guys for all your help, just sorry I could not get it all to work.

Best Regards,

Glen.

:s that's unfortunate, no idea what that error is about, or why it didn't surface the first time you ran the app and took the screenshot. perhaps a .net update is required or its an issue with the latest build. I have no XP rig to test on so that's as far as I can help, perhaps contacting the developer with the error message would be a step forward but I can understand the frustration, sorry it did not work for you.

Default One Last Favour Please.

Ok, after another frustrating two days trying various encoders I have decided to go back to Super C Video Converter, at least I was getting good video results even though the audio was below par.
So I if you don't mind, as one final favour, I would be very grateful if you could advise me if the following setting I am using with Super C are the best, or should I be using different settings?

Output - AVI
Output Video Codec - XviD
Output Audio Codec- MP3

Video Scale Size - 480x272
Aspect - 4.3
Frame/Sec - 25
Video Bitrate - 1008
Options - Top Quality - 48K Audio
Sampling Freq - 22050
Channels - 2
Audio Bitrate - 128

As I say I really would appreciate your time if you can take a quick look at these settings and let me know if there is anything wrong or could be bettered.

This really would help me so much.

Regards,

Glen.

Unfortunately i cant help with your problem. But you could try the Aiseesoft Total Media Converter. It's shareware and while the testperiod the encoding time is limited and they video has a watermark.
I used it to crop 16:9 as 4:3 videos to restore the 16:9 format. Output is avi and the video looks great on the j3.
If you like it, buy it or get it for free somewhere...

Video Scale Size - 480x272 - fine
Aspect - 4.3 - should be same as the source file
Frame/Sec - 25 - for good quality motion use 30
Video Bitrate - 1008 - overkill, anything over 800 you probably wont notice.
Options - Top Quality - 48K Audio
Sampling Freq - 22050 - phone quality, stick with 44.1 for compatibility and quality
Channels - 2
Audio Bitrate - 128 -160 to 320 for a good dvd copy

may i direct you here for a tool that will help you find the optimal settings for your files.

Great News!!!!!

Finally, yes finally got handbrake encoder installed on my computer, (never gave up trying) So now can I just ask one question re your earlier post please?

As I am ripping DVD’s do I still need to first go through programmes such DVD Shrink/DVD Fab then VOB merge before I go through to Handbrake Encoder, or do I just add the DVD raw into it?

Thanks for your help.
