Default JetAudio won't convert .mkv

Hi,
I want to convert a .mkv-file but somehow JetAudio can't get it done. Everytime I try it an error occurs.

"Error occured during conversion: -996.
Source file may be corrupted.
You can also try again with another codec such as ffdshow.
To download various codecs/codec packs, please visit
http://www.free-codecs.com"
My current version is 7.1.7.4005

I've had this bother too.
But I'd swear it has converted MKV before.

im not sure if this will work or not..but the main problem of jetaudio (or most of other 'normal' players) with win 7 is that win7 forces ALL DirectShow based players to use Microsoft DTV-DVD Decoder (or sth like that) which isn't the best thing out there.

install CCCP: http://cccp-project.net/

download this: http://www.codecguide.com/Win7DSFilterTweaker.zip
run and set ffdshow as default instead of MS codec.

alternatively, in jetaudio vid conv settings, you might wanna disable (uncheck) MS codec.

Try to install K-lite mega codec pack, select all the boxes when it asks you what preferences you want.
Be sure to reboot your pc after installing the pack. Jetaudio will then convert your .mkv files. It doen'st convert fast, but the quality is great.

Use Format factory or SUPER.

Format factory IS excellent. But the point being is that Jet Audio ius SUPPOSED to convert MKV and doesn't (but has before - I have just recently had to reinstall Windows, and it did then. I noted that, and something I have installed since hasn't agreed with Jet Audio)
