V5/V5W & 1080P support

So in the thread here

rafa manage to get the V5S firmware onto the V5 and it works fine. From what I can find the V5 and V5w (beside wireless) are pretty much the same.

Now the V5s can output/play 1080p while the V5 can go up to only 720p.

So is this video limitation on the V5 due to the chip change on the board or a software limit? And if it's a software limit is there a way to change that?
