Default problem with freezing

im sure this has been addressed before, but a quick search yielded no specific answers, so ill make a new thread...

im having a problem with my player freezing when i try to access some folders on the sd card. (i have version 2.57 and a 16 gig sd card.) for a while i had no problems with playing things off the sd card, but then when i tried adding a few new cds one time, when i tried to access the new folders it froze. (ie if i clicked on the new folder to open it it froze without opening it, never even getting to try to play anything.) i thought that maybe i had made the card too full, as i know it can only play up to a certain number of songs from the card, but even after deleting some other stuff it still had the problem playing those new folders. i tried re-encoding the songs, too, in case there was something wrong with the files that it wasnt liking, but that didnt solve the problem. at the time i had things organized more into subfolders, so i tried moving everythign into the root directory since it only seemed to have the problem within certain subfolders, but its still doing it. also, if i go to a folder that it will play thats right before a folder that causes it to freeze, and play the last song in the folder then hit next, itll either skip the problematic folder or freeze. (i forgot which, its been a while since i tried that.)

anyone familiar with this problem and know a solution to it?

things that I can suggest :
1)use the last firmware available for your player.here
2)format your SD card for better performance. here
if it doesn't works properly and you want to back up the data use a ram reader or insert the ram in another device for transfer.
3)D2 has file limit how many music you have put in your player?

thanks, ill try the first two to see if it helps. i deleted a few more cds off the card and now it played the cd, so it was an issue with having too many songs. its strange tho, because ive had many more songs on there than i had just now when i tried to play this new cd and didnt have problems before. i think something got messed up when my comp crashed while transferring stuff. its only since then that i started having this problem. hopefully resetting everythign will eliminate it. thanks again.

Hi. ive registered here just to reply this thread =o. First my excuses for my english, my mother languaje is spanish ^^.

I'm having the same problem as you with my SDHC 32gb card. On my previous D2 i've never had a problem about locking up the SDHC 16GB.

I bougth a new d2, and a SDHC 32 GB. I've uploaded 23 GB in a mix of 90% mp3, and the rest some ogg and some wma, this was mainly by a SDHC USB adapter. It was uploaded in pack like 6 to 7 Gb at once.
Put SDHC on the cowon and it has worked Smoothly fine!
I was happy until i've changed the SDHC for another... then put the SDHC 32 GB back in and the D2 hasnt recongnized all the folders with music..
Once i've tryied to navigater the folders on the D2 by the folder mode... the D2 Freeze up , and forced to reset. I've tryed formatting the SDHC, uploading the SDHC with little packs of music about 300 MB, and still had the problem. the SDHC is in perfect state, working properly in windows. what I know that's NOT the problem :
*Amount of uploading at once isnt.
*Way to upload, SDHC usb adaptor and directly to cowon, and even with jetaudio, arent the problem. 3 ways can result in freezes.

I've Finally managed to identify a problem. i was uploading a directory with 4 albums... 3 of them upload withouth problem... one of them freezes the D2 while browsing the folder. I've looked to the TAGS on the directory problem, and eliminated all the Weird "rare" characters from title, Band Artists etc. (this is things like [ , ] , ?, &, ) And completely eliminated comments, composer and other insifnificant TAGS.
That finally WORKs!, the problem directory now is succesfully navigated on the D2, and it's viewable in albums mode.

It's still intriguing how has appeared the problem at random... withotu any changed... first time it work fine.. and then with a changed of CArds it freeze the D2. now i have to check the another TAGS its a lot! 22 GB of mp3, but if that is the solution to my problem i will do it,... slow.. but ill do it. try it! use the TAGs probperly. a few folders at once.. to identify the albums or mp3 that have the problem... good luck!

Hello, all:

I'm also having this problem. Folders that worked last week are now inaccessible and not appearing in the database. I already reformatted the SD card and deleted files thinking I went over the limit, no luck.

I don't think it's the tagging because copying some of the same files into the internal memory results in a completely usable recording. Only my 32GB SDHC card seems to exhibit this problem.

Does anyone have any ideas? I love my D2, but this has me locked out of all my favorite music.

i also have that behavior... same files on internal memory works, but there was a directory (one of the four, with that i was triying) that simply freeze in the SDHC, that was fixed on the SDHC just when 've changed the tags. ill try it with all the directorys (a lot because there are 23 Gb of music) and hope that the fix tag thing solve the problem

I just confirmed my track count was 3,285. Within the 4,000 track limit.

I don't understand why this sort of suddenly popped up. I sure hope it's not the tags; I don't even use the tags, as I use folder view and have everything carefully organized into folders for maximal enjoyment. But that doesn't seem to matter for this player, as it's actually preventing the file manager from looking at the files.

I don't think there is a solution to this anymore. Had the same troubles with D2+ 16GB without using sd(hc) card. Sometimes it works, every other day it crashes with everything "unknown" or naming all folders after one album it pickes randomly for this purpose. Changing language or plugging to a pc to force it to rebuild the database changes the pattern but the problem persists: all folders named after one album or aren't named at all, tags are "unknown" and album art doesn't show (cover.jpg in folders) ... every other rebuild it freezes when trying to open one of all these nameless folders ...

Tried cowon support after calling, they asked me to send it in for "mainboard exchange" and display exchange (since it has bad offset) as well as for looking at a prob with alarm function (booting straight into menu when alarm is set, instead of playing the source it should) ... got it back now, "repaired" it claims in a paper, "new FW & Demos" ... A hell of a joke since all they did is changing from FW 2.13 to - guess what - 2.13 (!) and writing a letter claiming that pile of shit to "function" ...

Well, it still doesn't. All the problems are still there. In the meantime I bought an old used D2 (without "+") with 8Gb that's eating the same files again and again without hazzle. Even switching sdhc 32Gb is no prob for this unit. Alarm runs as it is supposed to and the touch function is proper. For about 6 months of daily use now ...

Tomorrow I'm gonna call cowon again, telling them they are gonna get mail ...

With the D2+(bugs) I tried all the recipes crawling through the net, none of the voodoo worked. The panasonic sd formatter speeded up the boot time of my old used D2 though ;-)

I'll keep throwing that piece of crap back at cowon until something happens. Something worth the 140 € I spent for wasting too much of my time without listening to music I mean.

heads up!
