Hi,
I damage the screen of my d2 in a freak accident two days ago (everything else is functional incld touchscreen, only lcd is damaged). I have been in contact with cowon and got a rma for sending in my d2. I live in Canada and have to send my unit to Irvine,CA ![]() Now, the thing is I bought my d2 off amazon exactly a year ago (2008-12-15). so i guess there is no warranty on the d2. does any have any clue as to how much it may cost me (the repair not the sending)? also reading this scares me http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=32947 is this a common experience with cowon repair? and finally any suggestions on how to pack the unit to be safe while sending it in? |

First of, if you open the RMA prior to 12/15 (your message here is at 12/14) then the warranty is still in effect.
Second, a damaged LCD may be due to your fault and not covered by the warranty. Based on my experience with Cowon support, I would send it for repair under warranty only, but I would immediately buy a replacement, too (try the sansa clip). The reason for the replacement is that the unit may take months to come back and/or the warranty may not cover the repair and I would not pay to fix it. If you are not willing to buy other brands, get another D2 and keep the first one for parts. The main power switch may fail, too. I know this is what I will do if it fails again. |

thanks for the reply...it is very likely my fault. any way i guess i should ask them how much it would cost to repair (if not under warranty) before sending it in

Just had to do mine about 2 months ago. Had the damn thing 6 weeks and broke the screen while the player was in my back pack. First, I emailed Cowon support and made very clear that it was a non warranty repair (I was honest and told them I broke it, the damage was obvious). Next, I requested a price quote, or guarantee that it would be less than $85. Seems kind of steep, but the thing was useless without a new screen.
Per their instructions, I sent it and waited until they sent me a bill for the repair and return shipping ($63 total). Got back and the new screen was defective (large streaking lines and inaccurate touch response). Contacted the original email address and they claimed that everything was tested before return. I politely told them BS because the player wasn't usable with the new screen. I told them I would like it repaired, or would file a claim with my credit card company. They told me to send it back and they would fix it. They were true to their word and on the second return the machine works flawless. They didn't charge me for any additional repair or shipping costs. I think it took about 3 weeks turn around time the first try and about 10 days the second. Not the greatest, but certainly not the worst in the personal electronics hardware industry. To make a long story short. I was satisfied. It was a little bumpy but the experience won't make me give up on my beloved Cowon players. This is my 3rd. I miss my good old x5s the most. Anyway, good luck. |

Just thought I'd update my experience...If some one else is looking for similar info
I was charged $67 for the repair and return shipment. It took about four weeks from when I send it to when I got it back. Overall, I was happy with the experience and glad to have my D2 back! |
