For GNU/Linux users who want to take video from their TiVo and move it to their D2:
I have started to use Tivo 4 Tiny and choose the BLACKBERRY as the destination. It's fast, quick and dirty, but it is fine for viewing TiVo on the go. (Rid yourself of TiVo guilt.) Starting the application, you get a window listing all of the NOW SHOWING programs. Double click on the show you want to transfer, and it queues the download and coversion. Click on another show to add it to the queue. When it's done, just take the resulting files off of your PC and drag and drop the to your D2 VIDEO folder, et viola! It's ready to view. Yes, the audio is just a tiny bit off synch, but not enought to be a real bother (not like in a badly dubbed Kung Fu movie). ![]() Try it. You'll like it. Once step to download and convert. One step to transfer. And you're done.

SUPER EASY DVD TO D2 Conversion for Ubuntu GNU/LINUX USERS : K9COPY
I found another great tool - especially easy to use - for Linux users. K9COPY is a KDE application - but I am using it behind Gnome (Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron). Ubuntu/Kubuntu users will find it in the Multiverse Repository. I took a DVD, converted it to AVI containing MPEG-4 video, MP3 audio, AND subtitles in one operation, including VOB extraction, subtitle extraction, and transcoding down to 320 pixel wide image in the original aspect ration ... all through simple menu control. Not only can you transcode from DVD to AVI (with or without subtitles) for the Cowon D2 ... but you can also copy DVD-9 to DVD-5. After I have had a chance to transcode a whole bunch of DVDs (including some of the ones that where more problematic for Avidemux - some of them needed lots of adjustments to frame rate and for audio lag) I will report back here ... but it looks very promising.

I thing the best converter for D2 is Format Factory.
It's supporting subtitles and also supporting every format. MKV , Avi and lots of formats. Very speedy converting and result is very successful. I recommending it.. |

Another great transcoder for Linux users for use with the D2.
It makes language selection super-easy, rips with subtitles (including easy-weasy language selection) resulting in sharp video and tight sound synch. It's actually a front end for mencoder, but has plenty of options -- and it's found in the Ubuntu repositories.
