Default iAudio 7 won't mount on mac os X.5.3

Hi all,

I recently made mac os 10.5.3 update, and realized my iAudio 7 won't mount anymore on y mac.

It's fw 1.17, and woun't mount either on MTP or UMS ; it used to mount on UMS and was recognized as an external disk.

Here, on the iAudio it's written "usb connected", but nothing on my mac...
Via the disk utility I can see the iAudio, but it's unable to either mount or repair authorizations.

I tried to reset it, but it won't work.

Haven't tried it on a PC yet.

The player works perfectly fine despite that.

Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem as discribed above... I checked Disk Utility as well, with same results.

They put some "fixes" for certain USB devices in the 10.5.3 update I read. And now this is the result of that. I think if more devices fail to connect with this update, Apple will fix it. But if it's just a problem with the iAudio 7 now...

Give Apple a note, that's all we can do I'm affraid.

If it was working before, can't you roll back the 10.5.3 update?

Well, I guess I could (though I do not know how), but it seems a bit harsh "downdating" the OS because of that.

But I'll give it a try.

I don't have any experience with downgrading OS X. I guess you could just download 10.5.2 from the Apple website and install... But I just don't see that as a option, I want my laptop to be up to date.

Maybe Cowon can do something with the iAudio 7 firmware to resolve this issue?

I'll just have patience... In the meanwhile I'll use another system to change my MP3-player content. At least it's a good thing we can still charge it!

Not mounting on 10.5.4 either...

I've mailed Cowon and Apple, waiting for an unprobable reply...

phoenixx; did you get any replies? I'm keen to buy an iaduio 7, 16Gb, but not before I'm certain I can transfer files from my mac..

No response....

But you can manage a solution : installing windows on your mac via bootcamp or another software. It's the only solution I've found...

It's a bit of a faff, but if you use Disk Utility to erase the player it will rebuild the file system in a way that Leopard can mount. It obviously erases your music and settings, but doesn't brick the player (which was my fear).

1. Use Disk Utility to erase the player.
2. Eject what now appears to be two volumes (the old one which refuses to mount and the new one which will be empty).
3. Fire up the player. I think that gets the firmware to sort itself out and recognise the newly formatted flash memory.
4. Your iAudio 7 should now be mounted when you plug it back into your computer. And now the dubious pleasure of re-transferring all your tunes...

That's worked for me. I haven't had the chance yet to see if it still is recognised on PCs or Linux, or if switching between multiple OSes confuses things. Will test that later today.

Edit: Switching between my Win2000 pc and a kubuntu hardy heron live CD doesn't seem to create any problems.

I'm happy there's a workaround! This is not giving any problems at all?

I lost my iAudio 7... Left it at a friends house, a few days later it was gone :S
I love this player, so if this problem we had can be completely solved by reformatting, I'll buy a new one...

EDIT: I just ordered one

cool!! this helped me to manage mounting my D2 on my linux boxes. since i do not have disk utility, i used fdisk to create new empty partition table and then a fat32 partition, formatted it, and suddenly everything works (c)

btw, seems like the problem is incorrect factory partition table:

I use my new iAudio 7 for a few weeks now. When my parcel arrived I immediately connected it to my Macbook and there was no mounting problem at all! I think indeed it had something to do with a bad filesystem. Apparently at Cowon they did take notice of it and format there players correctly now.
