I don't normally like using EQ settings, but upping the top and bottom end a touch seems to help with my headphones. I'll turn it off if I'm plugging into my stereo though. I quite like the MP Enhance setting though, it seems to add something wthout overly distorting the original.

I would just like to remind everyone that it is ALWAYS better to turn down frequencies you want to minimize, rather than turning up frequencies that you want to enhance. You should never have any sliders above 0dB. Instead, turn frequencies down, and turn the volume up slightly. I promise, you can achieve the exact same sound, but it will be of a better quality.

By turning frequencies up, you are probably causing your music to clip, which is not good. Clipping will not occur (due to EQ settings at least) if you keep all sliders at or below 0dB.

Here is the wikipedia article which explains what audio clipping is.

I run it totally flat.

I don't like over-processed sound. I think when you can pay $200 or more for an mp3 player, you also can pay $75 for a good pair of earphones (like V-Moda Vibe or JBL 220).

Clipping doesn't work the same way with EQs on MP3 players, car stereos, home stereos etc. as it does in the audio field. I'm a producer and DJ and you're right about leaving faders at unity but it doesn't work the same way in this situation. If you boost your EQ too high, it will distort or clip (depending on your speakers/headphones) but the EQs in these devices are made to be boosted.

How are V-Moda headphones? I believe I saw those at the store but I wasn't sure how they are. I'm into a lot of electronic music (mostly House) and they seem to be geared towards that but I honestly don't know anything about them. Time to read up.

Read some topics at head-fi.org. The Vibes are probably the best money can buy for around $100.

How are they any different at all? If it's a digital EQ, it's like all other digital EQs.

Can you provide a link to support this statement?

i think its best if people post the kind of music they listen too with a couple of artist examples with the configuration, becuase the same config you use to listen to metallica might not apply well to bach,

So you're telling me a Waves EQ is the same as the EQ on my car stereo, or more comparably the EQ that comes with Ableton Live?
