Default Touch Screen: D2 a step ahead of iPhone

well, I have to say "Control" wasn't iAudio's strong suit. But this time, D2's touch screen is a few steps ahead of iPhone.

I am impressed.

Granted, we don't get cell phone in D2, but heck, cellphones tech changes faster than mp3 players. so i'd like to keep them separated.

Good job Cowon, keep up the good work. Sooner or later people' gonna realize iAudio is simply better than iPods....

I'd like to see cowon doing something with scrolling for the touch screen. Like the scrollbar on firefox for example.

Hmm... I would have thought that would have been a logical implementation for the device. I just hope buttons don't become a pain when it comes to scrolling.

Another nice feature would be to be able to search for a file/folder using a letter input system. Say if you wanted to find "The Beatles", you would just input "B" or "Bea" and all the folder options would come up - that would be useful.

Another thing which could be interesting is this: put a notepad in it. Put a virtual keyboard on half the screen when you select the notepad. On the other half, space for the text you type.
Perhaps on an updated firmware!

Yeah a notepad would be cool. You could use it to store phone numbers and contacts.

That's a no for me. I wouldn't use it. Let's stick to the music/video function. That's the most important for me.

Heh, I think that's why most people have cell/mobile phones, but yeah, bring on the features!

I might be saving up to get either one of these or an iRiver U20 later in the year but price is going to be a big factor in deciding on which one to get. Ahead of the competition with touchscreen? Maybe. I'm a bit divided on the control method. On the Q5 it's a definate plus point but on the D2? Not sure.

As for PDA functions - definately not. Wouldn't you rather they spent their time implementing gapless, high capacity SD card support or refining the interface rather than adding features that (as previously mentioned) are already on eveyone's mobile phones? To be honest, I even think txt viewing isn't neccessary but I guess if you keep lyrics in txt files then it could be useful...

Absolutely. I've got a touch-screen device that has a powerful media player that supports FLAC, OGG, and other obscure file formats, has Wi-Fi with streaming radio support, plays games, has my entire Outlook Calendar from the past seven years, has over 1600 contacts stored, has excellent internet capabilities, corporate and private e-mail account support, SD card support, bluetooth, GPS (via a bluetooth GPS unit), decent camera, etc. It also has a tri-band GSM phone that will work all over the world.

It's called an ETEM-M600. It's a WM5 Pocket PC phone. All of the above would be great combined with the powerful media player I have installed, but the headphone out is not only crappy, but it has a non-standard jack for which adapters are not only hard to find, but reputably poor in quality.

Convergence devices are great on paper, but I have yet to see one that "does it all" very well. There's always something that doesn't quite make it. In the case of my "phone", I love it for everything except media. It just doesn't cut it.

This is why I'm here. The X5 looks like the ticket (or its successor?), or maybe the D2. But whatever I get, I want it to play music that sounds good. VERY good. And that's really all I want it to do. All efforts should be put towards THE SOUND.

Yeah thats what a touch screen is for...
When I first saw this player I had no doubt a scroll bar is implementet...
the buttons to scroll down are kind of poor....
its a great device but really one of a touch screen's greatest advantages would be a scroll bar...
please implement that cowon ...
no really would be kind of neat just scroll down to find a song real quick....
