My Cowon D2 has suddenly stopped being able to play FLAC files that I send to it. It still plays all FLAC files that are already on the player but it will not play any new FLAC files that I send to it. The folder will show up in the player but when I try and play the file it wont play. I have checked that there is nothing wrong with the way my computer is ripping the Cd's but they play fine on the laptop. Also I have now discovered that if I change the file extension name to ‘.fla’ from ‘.flac’ then the D2 will play the files fine ...but is that really the answer? That would mean a lot of work changing the file extension on every single individual track! Also if I do this I am worried that I am creating further headache for myself at some point in the future if I change to a different player. Will all my .fla files then not be recognised by other players as Flac and I will end up having to do the whole process again but in reverse? Can anyone help?? Much appreciated. Mark
As an after thought, I had the browser on mylaptop updated recently and the problem seems to have started since then ...but not sure if this would be related or not. (Also, its D2 not D2+ and with firmware 2.59) |

Just open up a "Command Prompt Window" and navigate to your music folder
Type: ren *.flac *.fla That will rename any file ending in .flac to end with .fla instead. Or, when you open the "command prompt window" just type: ren <D2's drive letter>:\<directory for music>\*.flac *.fla For example: ren K:\music\*.flac *.fla Last edited by D-Money; 02-24-2012 at 17:15.. Thanks, this is really helpful. However, when I attempt to do it, it just says 'file not recognised'. I was wondering if there was a reason that you are saying to go to the video folder? As my Flac files are audio. However, when I tried doing this in the music folder I still got the same result. However, I appreciate that in essence you have solved my dillema, I just need to figure out how to execute it, which in time I am sure I will figure out.

Oops, I thought FLAC files were related to FLV video files. My bad.
If it says "file not recognized" then there probably aren't any FLAC files in that folder. If your files are in Artist & Album sub-folders, then you'd need to do the rename in each sub-folder. |

Sure can.
Just as an example: f: cd \music\Gorillaz\Gorillaz ren *.flac *.fla cd .. cd Demon Days ren *.flac *.fla cd .. cd G-Sides ren *.flac *.fla cd .. etc. etc. You can cycle through previously used commands with the up/down arrow keys, so you won't have to repeatedly type ren *.flac *.fla |
