Default 1.12 corrupts database

I just tried FW 1.12.

I ended up with a corrupt database. The music is there but the player just does not see it.

I've been trying to reflash back to 1.11 but without success.

Any ideas?

You formatted the internal memory?

Doesn't that wipe the whole system?

The system is saved in a hidden partition and cannot be accessed in order to prevent what you said - a system wipe.

Formatting using windows does not work. It says: Windows was unable to complete the format.

Formatting with SDformatter works. I formatted it, put the 1.11 firmware files in the now empty root folder, ejected the usb device, hit the reset button because nothing was happening and ... ... it started with the 1.12 firmware!!! Plus now everything is in Korean.

I'm beginiinig to suspect 1.12 is Korean only, I mean it doesn't appear on the official page, only in the link on this forum

No, 1.12 is not only Korean, it's just the default language.
I posted the 1.XX firmware here because usually, it uses the settings from the previous firmware (which is set to English or the language you set). Since you formatted the player, the C2 chose Korean.

Anyway, I've read the C2's manual and it's easy to set the language back to English.
1. Open the settings screen
2. Open the second item (top right one)
3. Open the first item and look for "English" (or your desired language)

Ok, reformatted again and tried 1.12 again.

The Music and Settings menus are now just a blank black screen.

I must be doing something wrong, I just can't tell what it is. Maybe I somehow interrupted the firmware update process? Is it supposed to restart by itself when the update is finished?

Fianlly!!!

I reflashed to 1.11 and changed the language back to English. Phew.... I should have been very sorry to break this, it's the best mp3 player I ever had (no I didn't have an ipod but I had a Sony, a Philips and still have a Sansa clip)

Funny thing is when it starts it still says 1.12.

Thanks for the help.

I think I spoke too soon...

I'm still having problems. Whatever I copy to the internal memory becomes corrupted...

My final guess is that your C2 is damaged. Apparently nobody else has this problem so it probably isn't a software fault.

I had the corrupted issue, from what i can tell, what triggered it for me was sticking the device in MTP mode(do not put the c2 into mtp mode)

Im not sure why, but either way, my recomendation is, sent the c2 back to cowon support, mine should be headed back to me soon, i tried alot of things to fix the issues, and nothing worked, I have no clue why, and cowon dosnt respond when i email their rma guys asking about possibly getting tools to do a factory restore on the software/firmware.

I know they have said tools, and I know im more then capable of using said tools...duno why cowon wouldnt offer them as a way to restore the device to factory fresh config.

I guess it could be something to do with when you format with the sdformatter NOT choosing the adjust size option....but I also dont see how that could cause a problem as every other cowon (or other brand) i have had worked fine after format....

when i swapped to MTP mode i got a font error, then had to use tcctool to restore the firmware....after that, the unit was buggy....

in the case of porcupene I think his unit just needs to go back and let cowon look it over, sucks being out your best player, but at least cowon tend to be good about fixing their devices......dont get me started on trying to get sony or apple to do the same....(without charging you that is)

What I cannot understand is why after formatting and putting the 1.11 firmware files in it still says 1.12... I think it does not go completely back to 1.11.

I also got the font error ... it said it couldn't load the font ... and at other time it said it could not load the "resources" ...

I still think that the 1.12 firmware is not meant for use outside of Korea (or it's beta), if it were official how come it does not appear on the English page?

As I said, it is official in Korea and in case of the S9, J3, X7, i9, i10, V5 and other players, using 1.XX on a non-Korean device is absolutely safe. The only difference between 1.XX and 2.XX firmwares is that 1.XX comes with a dictionary app (which doesn't work on non-Korean models and closes itself automatically when you try to use it).
I wouldn't have posted it here if I hadn't been sure it's safe.

edit: Looks like V1.12 was faulty, Cowon removed the official announcement from their Korean website.
