Default How fast is your S9 usb transfer rate?

in my 16gb before, i was averaging around 4.0 ~ 4.5mb/sec

now in the 32gb, im getting around 6.0 ~ 6.8mb/sec

how's the speed on yours?

im just curious since i think this is very, very slow...

about the same, probably. depends on what's plugged into your bus I think.

I think in windows automatically connects the device in a slower but safer mode that means it wont break if the connection is unexpectedly lost.

if you right click the s9 and go to properties and driver you can change it a cache mode some how, it makes it faster but if the power goes off you could loose files

Wow, you guys are lucky or I must have one hell of a crappy computer (and I spent about $1800 for it too from my tax return >.<)! I'm lucky enough I get 720kb transfers, it's usually less and ALL my usb ports are 2.0. Maybe it was my device... I don't know, it's currently on it's way to Cowon's Repair facility anyway (RMA status: USB Port Malfunctioning).

i just got my 32gb model, and i'm currently copying over some of my music (a mix and match of FLAC, MP3, OGG files). given the various file sizes, it's going between 6-8MB/s to transer (it peaks at around 7.7MB/s as far as i've seen). Windows 7 says it'll take about 25 minutes to transfer 12GB of music files.

i think this is a pretty average transfer speed for a flash device - my PSP maxes out at 5MB/s (i have slow memory sticks) and my USB drive gets around 6-7MB/s transfer speeds as well.

Sounds about average/slightly above average for current flash based devices.

4022MB transfered in 607 seconds works out to about 6.6MB/s

I suspect we are at the mercy of the RAM in the device. I've two USB memory sticks made by Lexmark and Sandisk. The Lexmark one runs at 5.9MB/s write & 18.5MB/s read while my Sandisk one can write at 15.4MB/s and read at 29.5MB/s.

My old Touch ran at 3.75MB/s so this thing is blazing.

I just transferred 2 albums, 152MB in 34 seconds = ~4.4MB/sec. The USB2 controller on my laptop is shitty though, damn AMD SB400

^ USB2.0 is rated at 480Mbit/s (equivalent to 60MByte/s). Don't confuse bits and bytes. Anyways, that is the theoretical top speed. You're not going to get close to that speed for consistent throughput, no USB device can.

Code:
As far as we know, effective rate reaches at 40MBps or 320Mbps for bulk transfer on a USB 2.0 hard drive with no one else is sharing the bus.

2/3 (36 MBps) of the max speed is what i can get with my external harddrive WD

The limiting factor of that theoretical max is that a USB 2.0 port can only output up to 500 mAh of power to any device at a time. Seeing how it's .5 amp x 5v, you get a total of 2.5W which isn't a whole lot of power. If the power output was greater and flash memory writes were faster, then we could see a higher transfer rate. Unfortunately, that probably won't happen until USB 3.0 becomes mass adopted by the computer and electronics industry.
